2 Lawyers From Manhattan DA’s Office Abruptly Resign From Trump Case

Two attorneys within the Manhattan District Attorney’s office who were prominent figures in the criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump’s Trump Organization properties have resigned from their posts.

The investigation focuses on determining if Trump and his company illegally misrepresented the value of his assets — whether he illegally inflated and exaggerated his properties’ net worth in order to obtain large loans from several banks over the years.

Attorneys Carey Dunne, Mark Pomerantz submitted their resignation papers on Wednesday. Although they have not made public statements about why they left the investigation, many speculate that they did so because they were frustrated with the direction the inquiry is heading under District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

In spite of their resignations, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said that the investigation “is ongoing.”

Cyrus Vance, the former Manhattan District Attorney, decided not to run for reelection in last year’s election, leaving the investigation to Bragg. Sources speaking to The New York Times about the attorneys’ resignationsThey claim that they happened because Bragg expressed doubts about the case’s progress. Another source spoke to CNNThat was said by. Bragg appeared “disinterested” in pursuing the investigationindicating that his disengagement may have led to the attorneys quitting.

A separate source disputed Bragg’s disinterest in the case, calling it “ridiculous.” The source added that Bragg has”taken a great interest” in the case and reiterated that the investigation is “ongoing.”

Bragg promised to be focused on the Trump inquiry before he took office. “This is obviously a consequential case, one that merits the attention of the D.A. personally,” Bragg said at the time.

However, there has been a noticeable slowdown in activity regarding the special grand jury that was established to hear evidence against Trump and his associates. Bragg and his staff will have little time for the prosecution as the grand jury expires in April. Even though the deadline is fast approaching, not a single witness has yet to appear before the grand jury in over a month.

Trump allies have been able to resign two prominent attorneys, even though the case is still open. to wrongly declare the case to be over. Even if the case does eventually get dropped, a separate inquiry at the state level, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, is still happening, and doesn’t show signs of ending anytime soon.

Indeed, while activity has dwindled in the Manhattan District Attorney’s inquiry, it has increased in the New York AG’s office.

James’s office said the criminal inquiry was still in place.

“The investigation is ongoing, and there is a robust team working on it,” a spokesperson for the attorney general said.
