Do you want to set your child up with a healthy college fund at birth? There's one easy way to do, but it's kind of a gamble.
KFC is offering to give $11,000 to the first baby born on September 9, Colonel Sander's birthday, who shares his first name.
"It’s a great name for your baby. Just say it out loud. Harland. Plus, your greatly named kid could get $11,000 for college," reads the tweet.
If you're willing to take that gamble that your baby will be the first "Harland" born on September 9, then you could win the money. They want to honor Sanders by increasing the number of people who share his first name.
The amount of the gift is also significant. They are giving $11,000 for KFC’s 11 herbs and spices.
If you decide to enter the contest, the submission link can be found here. The entry site will go live on the 9th, and it will stay open for 30 days. Parents must submit name, date, and time of birth via an official document like a birth certificate or hospital record.
The promotion is held in honor of founder Sanders’ 128th birthday. The name Harland isn't popular anymore—it's ranked only 3,257 among the most common baby names in America.
“Even though vintage names are making a comeback, our iconic founder’s name was dwindling in popularity, and we couldn’t just stand idly by and let that happen,” said Andrea Zahumensky, KFC U.S. chief marketing officer. “We hope that this birthday celebration honors the Colonel and encourages the next generation of people aspiring to live the American dream.”
