Tragic news emerged on Friday night about an accident involving a semi-truck and a bus full of 28 hockey players. The collision in western Canada caused at least 15 deaths, with everyone else suffering injuries. Now, information has been revealed about some of those involved in the accident.
Among those with injuries, at least three are in critical condition. The accident took place on Highway 35 near Tisdale when the bus collided with a semi-truck. Details about the crash are still limited.
On the bus were 28 members of a junior league hockey team, the Humboldt Broncos. The coaches and athletes were reportedly traveling to play in a semifinal game in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
After the devastating report, several prominent figures shared their condolences. Franklin Graham posted about the tragedy, along with President Trump and Justin Trudeau.
Now, some information has been released regarding who was on the bus. One of the hockey players that was killed is the son of a former pro hockey player.
20-year-old Jaxon Joseph is the son of former NHL player and 5th overall draft pick, Chris Joseph. Jaxon was on his way to follow in his father’s footsteps before the tragic accident took place.
According to Hockey Feed, Chris Joseph entered the NHL in 1987 and played 510 games between the Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, and Atlanta Thrashers. Later, he moved to Europe to continue his hockey career.
The elder Joseph had an impressive career in the NHL including 39 goals and 151 points. Additionally, according to his website, Joseph had been coaching for his two son's minor hockey leagues as well. His son, Jaxon, took after his father and held a promising future in the sport and in life.
This season in the junior leagues, the 20-year-old athlete had 25 goals and 38 points. Sadly, this accident has cut off his potential way too soon.
Please be praying for the Joseph family during this devastating time, as well as the other families who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. We will update as more identities are confirmed. In other recent news, a sad update was just released about the missing 5-year-old autistic boy.
