An incredible story of one woman's kindness has been making headlines around the nation. Carrie Jernigan bought out an entire Payless shoe store and plans to donate the shoes to those in need.
When Jernigan went into her local Payless in Fort Smith, Arkansas that was closing down, her daughter asked if she could buy a pair of "Avengers" shoes for a student at her school who's shoes were too small for him. After agreeing to her daughter, Jernigan asked the sales clerk, "How much for the rest of the shoes in the store?"
The clerk asked for her number and had the district manager give her a call. While Jernigan admits she was "almost joking" when asked about buying out the rest of the store, the manager called and said she could buy the remaining almost 1,500 shoes. Jernigan agreed.
“I always tell my kids, if you ask them what they want to be when they grow up, they say be kind, and so I don’t care what they do in life as long as they are kind and good people,” Jernigan told KFSM. “And so it just reiterates to me that their hearts are in the right place, and if it’s in the right place they can do amazing things.”
Jernigan's thoughtful purchase cost her about $21,000 and she plans on donating 1,100 of the shoes to children and local school and will give away the rest to adults who are in need.
Earlier this year, Payless announced they would be closing down all of their 2,100 stores across the United States and Puerto Rico.
What an incredible way to give back to her community and helps those in need. We hope this inspires others to always have a generous heart and that any amount of kindness goes a long way!
