Sad news to report from Florida. A four-year-old girl was thrown from a bridge into a river and died, and a woman believed to be her mother is in custody after police arrested her.
According to The Epoch Times, the young girl was thrown into the Hillsborough River in Tampa on Thursday, August 2. Witnesses contacted the Tampa Bay Police Department.
The girl was pulled from the river and rushed to a hospital, but was pronounced dead at the hospital. Shakayla Denson, 26, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Je’Hyrah Daniels, according to Local 10 News.
According to the police, an investigation is underway after finding that Denson stole a car and drove to the Hillsborough River. Witnesses say she waded into the river before tossing the girl into the river then leaving.
Divers found the girl about 30 minutes later. She was submerged about 75 feet off shore. Police officers found Denson walking down the road minutes later. She is accused of stealing a car from Jordan Auto Repair.
Denson is also facing charges of child abuse and grand theft auto. The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
