“Wizard of Oz” fans are in mourning following the death of one of the memorable characters from the hit 1939 movie. The last surviving member of the Lollipop Guild (the munchkins) sadly passed away.
American actor Jerry Maren was 98 years old at the time of his death. Multiple news sources confirmed the sad news early Wednesday morning, June 6th.
According to TMZ, Maren actually died more than a week before the news of his death was released to the public. He reportedly suffered from dementia, but an official cause of death was not immediately given.
Other than his notable role in the “Wizard of Oz” film, Maren also starred in several others movies including “Little Cigars” (1973) and “Battle for the Planet of the Apes” (1973). Additionally, he made brief guest appearances on television shows such as “Seinfeld” and “Bewitched,” reported PEOPLE.
