Will Smith was reportedly asked to quit the Oscars after slapping Chris Rock.
According to TMZ Will was requested to leave by Dawn Hudson, CEO, and David Rubin (the President of Academy). He refused to leave and was still allowed the best actor Oscar award.
They also sent a letter stating that they would meet to investigate the slap.
WILL SMITH SMACKS CHRIS ROCK
Dear Members
Sunday’s telecast of the 94th Oscars was meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year. We are shocked and outraged by the inexcusable and damaging behavior displayed on stage by a nominee. To be clear, we condemn Mr. Smith’s actions that transpired Sunday night.
As outlined in our bylaws, the Academy’s Board of Governors will now make a determination on appropriate action for Mr. Smith. This process, which is governed by California law concerning members of nonprofit organizations such as the Academy and set out in our Standards of Conduct will take several weeks.
We will keep you informed of any developments but ask that you respect your Board, Academy staff, and the process as it unfolds, so that it can function in the thoughtful way it was intended. Trust that the Board of Governors will manage this process in a way that is both efficient and respectful of all parties while still maintaining the Academy’s standards.
Thank you.
