Last week, world-famous comedian Sir Ken Dodd passed away in his home. The British entertainer, who was 90-years-old at the time of his death, had just married his longtime partner two days prior to his death.
Sir Ken Dodd had a long and prominent career in entertainment. He became a comedian in 1954 and was highly accomplished in his career, including being in the Guinness Book of World Records for telling 1,500 jokes in only three and a half hours.
Along with being a comedian, Dodd was a singer as well. His songs topped the charts in the 1960s, only being beaten by two Beatles singles, according to BBC.
Sir Ken Dodd had been with the love of his life, Anne Jones, for 40 years. Two weeks before his death, Dodd had been discharged from a local hospital after recovering from a chest infection. Only two days before his death, Dodd and Jones decided to tie the knot.
Now, Anne Jones has spoken out about her grief and about the upcoming funeral plans.
Anne said that his funeral will take place on March 28 at the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. After the service, a private burial ceremony will take place. Anne said that the comedian’s favorite jam butties — British version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich — will be served in remembrance of him.
Concerning her grief, Anne said that her lifetime of memories was helping her through.
She said, “Ken had a wonderful life. I just didn’t want it to end…He used to say to people who told him they had lost a loved one, ‘You haven’t lost them, they’ll always be with you,’ tapping his heart. And I keep telling myself that.”
She continued, “Ken had more ideas and things to do I know. But the outpouring of love and admiration for Ken from the whole country has been overwhelming. There’s a mountain of flowers outside the house, full of heartfelt messages. We’ve had a sackful of mail and all the cards are being opened.”
She added, “The world has lost a most life-enhancing, brilliant, creative comedian with an operatically trained voice, who just wanted to make people happy. He lived to perfect his art and entertain his life and adoring audiences.”
Please continue praying for Anne during this difficult time. A loss, no matter the age or circumstance, is difficult to deal with. Share your prayers here! In other recent news, all eyes in England were on Kate Middleton yesterday in her gorgeous maternity festive look.
