Why Is the Left Suddenly Worried about the End of Democracy?

What is behind recent pessimistic appraisals of democracy’s future, from Hillary Clinton, Adam Schiff, Brian Williams, and other elite intellectuals, media personalities, and politicians on the left? Some warn of its possible loss in 2024. Others predict democracy’s downturn as early 2022, with scary scenarios of “autocracy” and former President Donald Trump “coups.”

To answer that question, first you must understand the truth behind these shrill forecasts.

They are not concerned about 2,000,000 foreign nationals breaking through the border in a single calendar year, and without any vaccinations during a Pandemic. It seems strange that a government would simply nullify its own immigration laws.

They are not concerned about the fact that around 800,000 immigrants, some of them illegally residing in New York City, will vote in New York City elections.

They don’t worry about the fact that there are formal attempts to undermine the U.S. Constitution. These efforts include removing the 233-year-old Electoral College and the preponderance of the states in establishing national election ballot laws.

They are not concerned that we are witnessing an unprecedented leftwing effort to eliminate the 180-year-old filibuster and the nine-person Supreme Court.

They are not concerned that the Senate tried an impeached ex president and private citizen this year, without the chief judge in attendance, without witnesses or a special prosecutor, and without a formal report from a commission of presidential high crimes.

They don’t worry that the FBI, Justice Department and CIA, Hillary Clinton and members of the Obama Administration systematically sought out U.S. government agency to sabotage a presidential election, transition, or presidency via the use a foreign national and ex spy Christopher Steele and his gang of discredited Russian sources.

They are not concerned about the fact that the Pentagon suddenly lost the majority of American support. Top current and retired officers have flagrantly violated the chain-of-command, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and without data or evidence have announced a hunt in the ranks for anyone suspected of “white rage” or “white supremacy.”

They are not concerned about the fact that 64% of the electorate didn’t vote on Election Day in 2020.

Nor are they worried that the usual rejection rate in most states of non-Election Day ballots plunged—even as an unprecedented 101 million ballots were cast by mail or early voting.

And they are certainly not worried that partisan billionaires of Silicon Valley poured well over $400 million into selected precincts in swing states to “help” public agencies conduct the election.

What is the secret to this left-wing panic about the supposed imminent end of democracy?

It is very simple. The left expects to lose power over the next two years—both because of the way it gained and used it, and because of its radical, top-down agendas that never had any public support.

After gaining control of both houses of Congress and the presidency – with an obsequious media and the support of Wall Street, Silicon Valley, higher education, popular culture, entertainment and professional sports – the left has managed in just 11 months to alienate a majority of voters.

Unprecedented crime and non-enforcement of borders have ravaged the nation. Leftist district attorneys either won’t indict criminals; they let them out of jails or both.

Illegal immigration is on the rise and inflation is on the rise. Fuel prices rose due to deliberate cuts in oil and gas production.

All this bad news comes on the heels of the Afghanistan disaster, worsening racism relations and an incapacitated President.

In generic polls, Democrats trail the Republicans by 10 points. The midterm elections are less than a decade away.

President Joe Biden’s negatives run between 50% and 57%—in Trump’s own former underwater territory.

Biden is not wanted by more than a third the country. In many head-tohead polls, Trump is now ahead of Biden.

Also, leftist elites fear that democracy will not work too well.

After the Russian collusion hoax and two impeachments, Hunter Biden laptop stories and the Kavanaugh hearings staged melodramas, the Jussie Mollett con, Covington kids smear and Rittenhouse trial run frenzy, people are not only tired of leftist hysterias but also weary of how and why the left gains power.

If Biden were polling at 70% approval, and his policies at 60%, the current doomsayers would be reassuring us of the “health of the system.”

They are fearful and angry not because democracy doesn’t work, but because it does despite their own media and political efforts to warp it.

When radicals take over a party and use almost all means to gain and keep power for agendas that few Americans favor, the average voter will express their disapproval.

This reality seems to be terrifying for an elite. It then claims that any system that allows people vote against the left does not give them power.
