The 2018 Winter Olympic Games will begin on February 9th in Pyeongchang, South Korea. With only days left until the start of the major event, the White House made a special announcement regarding Ivanka Trump’s Winter Olympics visit this year.
In January, the First Daughter tweeted about her excitement for the upcoming winter event. She is expected to attend several of the sporting events.
On Monday, the White House confirmed that Ivanka will lead the presidential delegation for the closing ceremony, reported The Hill. The request reportedly came from her father, President Trump, and the U.S. Olympics Committee.
The last day of the Olympics is February 28th.
This announcement comes shortly after Vice President Mike Pence revealed that he will be bringing late Otto Warmbier’s father as his special guest. As tensions continue to rise with North Korea, Pence's bold move sent a strong message. Previously, the Trump administration made it clear that Warmbier's death came as result of North Korea's brutality.
