On Wednesday, the White House announced that three American citizens had been released from detention in North Korea after having been there more than a year. The three citizens, Kim Hak-song, Kim Sang Du, and Kim Dong Chul, traveled with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo back to the United States.
When they arrived in the U.S. early on Thursday, they were greeted by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. Now, the White House has released photos of that joyous moment.
The POTUS and FLOTUS can be seen shaking the hands of the three men and speaking with them. It's wonderful that they went out of their way to honor these men.
The White House made a statement about the release on Wednesday.
The statement reads, “At the direction of President Donald J. Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other representatives of the United States government travel to Pyongyang, North Korea on May 9 to prepare for the President’s upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.”
It continued, “During Secretary Pompeo’s visit, the North Korean leadership released three American detainees. President Trump appreciates leader Kim Jong Un’s actions to release these American citizens, and views this as a positive gesture of goodwill.”
“The three Americans appear to be in good condition and were all able to walk on the plane without assistance. All Americans look forward to welcoming them home and seeing them reunited with their loved ones,” it concluded.
President Trump also tweeted about their release.
"I am pleased to inform you that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in the air and on his way back from North Korea with the 3 wonderful gentlemen that everyone is looking so forward to meeting. They seem to be in good health. Also, good meeting with Kim Jong Un. Date & Place set."
President Trump revealed that he would be meeting the three American citizens at the airport upon their arrival, taking place early Thursday morning.
Please pray for these three men as they readjust to life in the United States. In other news, a nurse has been charged in the death of a prominent Trump official's father.
