On Thursday morning, the White House made an announcement about President Trump’s upcoming trip to Europe. They revealed that another item will be added to the long list of things that President Trump hopes to accomplish while on the trip.
According to the White House, President Trump has added a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin into his agenda. The two will meet on July 16 in Helsinki, Finland.
The WH said that President Trump and Putin will focus on “relations between the United States and a range of national security issues.”
This news comes in the midst of a long examination of Russia’s alleged interference with the 2016 elections. On early Thursday morning, President Trump tweeted out claiming that the Democrats need to be investigated over the potential interference instead of the current administration.
He said, “Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election! Where is the DNC Server, and why didn’t Shady James Comey and the now disgraced FBI agents take and closely examine it? Why isn’t Hillary/Russia being looked at? So many questions, so much corruption!”
The news of President Trump’s upcoming meeting also comes a day after National Security Adviser John Bolton met with Moscow officials. According to Fox News, President Trump said that they would be talking about Syria and Ukraine as well.
Along with meeting with President Putin, President Trump will participate in the NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium on July 11-12. On July 13, he is expected to meet with U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May.
