Jody Kuchler and his girlfriend, Thania Sanchez, were driving behind the Dodge pickup that swerved across the center lane, crashing into the church bus filled with senior citizens.
Kuchler was the man who alerted law enforcement officers of the swerving truck.
He was also the first on the scene and spoke to 20-year old Jack Young who admitted to TEXTING while he was driving the pickup.
Sanchez was able to video the white Dodge pickup swerving "all over the road" for about 20 minutes. Her phone stopped recording minutes before the crash that took the life of 13 passengers.
“Both of our concerns was him hitting somebody head-on. I was more worried about him hitting kids,” Kuchler said.
Federal investigators said that most, if not all 14 people aboard the church bus were wearing their seatbelts but only the driver and front passenger were wearing 3-point lap and shoulder belts, as the rest were only wearing lap belts.
Investigators are looking into why the 13 passengers died even though they had their seat belts on.
