Bush was asked if he wanted to go to the hospital, but he said no—he was ready to be with his wife and daughter Robin, who died of leukemia as a child. He passed away at his home in Houston surrounded by his family, including son Neil Bush and his wife Maria, grandson Pierce Bush, and former Secretary of State James Baker.

After his passing, the New York times learned his heartwarming last words. Hours before his death, he spoke to his son former president George W. Bush on speakerphone.

During the conversation, the younger Bush told his H.W. that he had been a "wonderful father."

The former president replied: "I love you, too." Those were his final words before he passed.

He successfully entered politics in 1967 when he was elected as the US Representative from Texas' 7th District. After that, he served as the Ambassador to the United Nations, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Director of the CIA.

In 1988, he was elected 41st president of the United States with 53.1% of the popular vote and 426 electoral votes. He is the first sitting Vice President since Martin van Buren in 1836 to be elected to the presidency.

He lost the 1994 presidential election to Democrat Bill Clinton. However, he remained active in politics and influenced the future of America as the father of George W. Bush. He is only the second man to be both the president of the United States and father to a president. The other was John Adams, the second president of the United States.

Bush has had a variety of health problems in recent years. He also had vascular parkinsonism, which is a rare syndrome that mimics Parkinson's disease.
