On Saturday, June 23, the sad news was revealed that “legendary” drummer Vinnie Paul has passed away. He died at the young age of 54.
Vinnie was the drummer and co-founder of Grammy-nominated band Pantera. The band made the sad announcement about Paul’s death on Facebook.
They said, “Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away…The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time.”
Vinnie Paul and his brother Darrell Abbott formed Pantera in the 1980s. They grew up in a very musical family, as their father, Jerry Abbott, was a famous country songwriter and producer.
In 1995 and in 2011, the band was nominated for Grammy awards. In 1994, they produced a No. 1 hit called “Far Beyond Driven.”
At the end of 2003, the band decided to end their time together. Paul had said that while they had “really good success,” they wanted to move on to other things.
