Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the 40th anniversary for Focus on the Family, a well-known Christian organization, in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Friday, June 23rd. He was accompanied by his wife, Second Lady Karen Pence.

In his speech, he discussed the importance of faith and thanked Focus on the Family for their work in ministry of bringing God’s word to the American people.

He stated, “It’s a privilege to be here on this historic day -- the 40th anniversary of a cornerstone of American life for so many Americans, an organization that has been a champion without equal for American families, a bastion of grace that has inspired millions with your model of Christian love.”

Following Pence’s speech, the vice president was attacked for supporting Christian faith. Protesters dressed as those in the ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ spoke out against Pence’s remarks. LGBTQ organizations also accused Pence and the Trump administration ‘turning their back on pride’ for supporting an ‘extremist right-wing group’.

Despite people ‘resisting’ Trump’s agenda and desire to bring back God and faith into our country, the Trump administration isn’t backing down; they continue to stand up for Christian faith and religious freedom. Throughout Pence’s speech, he continuously emphasized the President’s aspiration for America to be proud to worship again and make God the focus by staying consistent with His values.

He ends with, “So let's just pray for America. Let's pray for this country that we are so blessed to call home. Because America matters far beyond our shores. And when you pray, pray with confidence. Because I truly do believe those ancient words that Americans have repaired to time and again in much more challenging times than we face today are every bit as true now as they were millennia ago: That if His people who are called by His name will humble themselves and pray, He'll do like He's always done. He’ll hear from heaven, and He’ll heal this land -- this one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
