Romance rumors first started when the pair were spotted together in November 2020, less then a year after their split. Austin Butler. Hudgens was honest at the time about what she wanted in a partner.
“Your girl’s open. I feel like at the end of the day, it’s just about having similar fundamentals and wanting the same things,” the Powerless alum told Entertainment Tonight. “I am not picky, really.”
Hudgens added: “I know what I want and I’m like, if someone comes into the picture and can give me all those things, then great. It doesn’t matter if they’re in the public eye or not. If anything, I prefer them not to be, but we’ll see.”

Hudgens explained how they first became close as their relationship grew more serious.
“Me and Cole met on a Zoom meditation group. Very random, yes,” the Princess Switch star told Entertainment TonightApril 2021. “Zoom, you’ve got to love it.”
Hudgens believed her romance with the shortstop was something special, adding, “He’s just kind of perfect for me. I am [happy]. I truly am. I think that it’s also so important to stay grateful for everything that you have in life. I’ve been making that a priority, and I feel like it’s just been making magic happen all the more.”
Hudgens explained how she made her first move when she first met the pro-athlete a month later.
“If I want something or someone, I’m going after them,” she said during an appearance on Drew Barrymore ShowIn May 2021. “I fully just slid into his DMs and was like, ‘Hey, it was nice to meet you.’ So I think there is no shame in making the first move.”
