US Navy Pondering The Unthinkable - Considering Charges For National Hero

In the wake of the terrorist attack on the military recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee where an Islamic extremist killed 5 military servicemen, the United States Navy appears on the verge of attacking the one person who fought back.

According to this recent Fox news article, The Navy is considering bringing charges against Lieutenant Commander Timothy White for his actions.

Under the hailstorm of bullets being fired against him and his fellow military brethren, Lt. Cmdr. White used his personal firearm to shoot back at the terrorist.  According to Defense officials, Lt. Cmdr. White could be brought up on charges for illegally firing an unauthorized weapon on federal property. “Even if remote, is there a chance White contributed to the chaos and got people killed?  Hurt police efforts?” an official said, “We are exploring that.”

The Navy released a statement distancing themselves from the decision for the time being, “Stories of Navy personnel being charged with an offense are not true, There is still a long way to go in reviewing the facts of this tragic incident, but at this time we can confirm no service member has been charged with an offense.”

Even the slightest possibility that Lt. Cmdr. White could be charged is drawing outrage.  Presidential candidate and former Marine Jim Webb said in a tweet, “Navy charging LCDR Tim White w/ a crime for trying to defend our sailors & Marines in #Chattanooga? He deserves a medal, not an indictment”.

The fact that this course of action is even being considered is a slap in the face to Lt. Cmdr. White, the fellow survivors, the servicemen who lost their lives, all members of the military and all law abiding Americans.  This is not the way we are supposed to treat our heroes!
