Secretary of State John Kerry appeared before a Senate Appropriations committee on Wednesday to answer questions about Obama’s shockingly naïve plan to close down the Guantanamo Bay facility and release terrorists back to their native countries.
Kerry was shown a picture of Ibrahim al-Qosi, a terrorist that was released from Guantanamo Bay who has recently appeared in an Al-Qaeda recruiting video. Senator Mark Kirk (R–Ill) pointed to this example as a specific reason why the American government should not be freeing terrorist who seek to destroy America.
Kerry, speaking on behalf of the Obama administration, issued a rebuttal that showed just how inept the administration is on keeping America safe and fighting the very real threat of terrorism.
“Well, senator, he’s not supposed to be doing that,” Kerry said of the released terrorist. “There are consequences for that, and there will be.”
Kerry then tried to justify that releasing terrorists is the American way of doing things. “But apart from that, the fact is that we’ve got people who’ve been held without charges for 13 years, 14 years in some cases. That’s not American. That’s not how we operate,” Kerry said.
Instead of transforming the current system and charging the terrorists in a more timely fashion, Kerry and the administration seem to be ok with releasing the terrorists and hoping that they will be “good boys” and play nice.
