United Airlines is apologizing after a terrible misunderstanding took place. They accidentally placed a 14-year-old passenger on a flight to the wrong country!
The incident took place in an airport in North Carolina. The boy was trying to go and visit his extended family in Sweden when he was accidentally put on a flight bound for Germany instead.
"Due to Berg being an unaccompanied minor, airline personnel were instructed to escort him to his flight, a service that cost his parents $150. Once onboard a Scandinavian Airlines flight set for Germany, the teen quickly realized something was wrong as the plane was prepared for takeoff, and alerted his parents, who were back home in Raleigh, N.C.," reported People.
The boy realized something was wrong when he noticed other passengers speaking German. He texted his parents and then alerted a flight attendant who realized the mistake.
The plane returned to the terminal and put Anton on the correct flight. However, he missed his original plane. The airline has since issued a statement about the mishap.
“The safety and well-being of all of our customers is our top priority, and we have been in contact with the young man’s family to confirm his safety and to apologize for this issue,” the statement read. “Once Eurowings recognized that he had boarded the wrong aircraft in Newark, the plane returned to the gate – before taking off. Our staff then assisted the young customer to ensure that he boarded the correct rebooked flight later that evening. We have confirmed that this young customer safely reached his destination.”
The boy's parents were not very pleased. They spread the news of the mistake via Twitter and the story quickly went viral.
