"Uncle Si" Robertson thinks it's strange that he's been proposed to multiple times since becoming a "Duck Dynasty" TV star, especially considering that he's already married...and has been for the past 45 years. But not many fans seem to know that, likely due to the fact that Uncle Si's wife Christine never appears on the hit reality show.
Why is that?
Christian Post asked Uncle Si during a recent interview.
"Everybody asks me once they found out I'm married, 'Why isn't Christine on the show with you?'" Uncle Si explained. "The woman has a lot better sense than the rest of us. She don't want any part of it."
Uncle Si also told the story of how his wife first met him — she was giving a lift to a Vietnam vet hitchhiker in 1969 — and what happened the evening he proposed to her. It was two years later that Uncle Si took Christine to a restaurant and proposed to her...10 times. Six hours later she finally said "yes."
Why was she so reluctant? She revealed to Si that a doctor told her she would never bear children. Uncle Si replied that he knew a much more powerful Doctor, and whether or not she'd ultimately be able to have kids was up to Him. The two were wed and gave birth to two children, a son and a daughter that they considered miracles from God.
"It's one example of how God trumps everyone and everything," Si said. "That's why He is sovereign over all creation over all of the world."
Uncle Si also had some marriage advice, which is a subject in his brand new book "Si-renity: How I Stay Calm and Keep the Faith."
He said about married couples, "Everybody needs to learn to laugh at yourself. We all make stupid mistakes because we are human beings. If you make a stupid mistake, laugh at it and learn from it and move on. Today, kids have the wrong idea about marriage."
Back on the subject of the women who have proposed to him through letters in more recent years, Si said, "What they don't know is that Christine is the one who actually reads their letters and she has responded not so kindly to a few of them. Hey, what can I say? When you've got it, you've got it, Jack!"
