American actress Meghan Markle has been the center of global headlines in recent days following her engagement to Prince Harry last year. Their engagement was controversial, given that she is American, an actress, and biracial—she will be the first colored person to marry into the Royal family.
Despite the controversy, Harry’s family has welcomed Markle with open arms. The Queen even broke protocol for Harry’s soon-to-be wife, allowing her to join them for Christmas festivities prior to their marriage.
However, previously, one member of the Royal family was under major heat for her racist gesture. While Markle was attending a Royal event, the Queen's cousin Princess Michael wore a brooch that was highly offensive to the black race.
Markle is, again, the subject of another racial dispute. Over the weekend, news broke that the girlfriend of UK Independent Party leader Henry Bolton, Jo Marney, made racist remarks against Markle.
According to the Huffington Post, 25-year-old Marney called Markle (and black people in general) “ugly.” She also referred to Markle as a “dumb little commoner,” said she would “taint” the Royal family, and pave the way for a “Black king.”
She reportedly made the remarks to a friend in private messages, stated ABC News. Following Marney’s racist comments, Bolton ended his romantic relationship with her, which has only been going on since last December.
Additionally, Marney’s membership was suspended.
Marney did apologize for her remarks, calling them “reckless and unnecessary.” However, according to her, they were taken out of context.
