The war on terror has been waging for years across the globe. Now, America is continuing the fight by destroying militant strongholds in Somalia. The news is making headlines across the nation.
According to reports, sixty-two militants were killed by US airstrikes in Somalia this month, US Africa Command said in a statement released Monday. The successful strikes were conducted after significant information was gathered about the potential targets.
"The strikes, which targeted Al-Shabaab militants, were conducted near Gandarshe, Somalia, according to the statement. A strike on Saturday killed 34 militants, and a strike on Sunday killed 28 militants, US Africa Command said," reported CNN.
Al-Shabaab, al Qaeda's largest affiliate, "uses portions of southern and central Somalia to plot and direct terror attacks, steal humanitarian aid, extort local populace to fund its operations, and shelter radical terrorists," the statement continued. The strike is sure to be a crippling blow to the terrorist organization.
Thankfully, the U.S. military has confirmed that the airstrikes did not injure or kill any civilians. The attack is a strong example of President Trump's promise to continue the fight on terror and rid the world of extremist insurgents. Please join us in praying for our troops across the globe!
