Even though one brick hasn’t been laid upon another yet after President Trump’s recent executive order to start construction of the new U.S.-Mexico border wall, something incredible is already happening in Mexico.
Mexicans are becoming proud to be Mexicans again.
According to Yahoo News, Trump’s upcoming wall is spurring national patriotism in Mexico not seen for years.
As some Mexicans burn effigies of Trump in protest, many others are taking to social media to shout “Viva Mexico!” and share the hashtag #WeAreAllMexico.
Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico and almost the richest in the entire world, expressed, "This is the most surprising display of national unity that I have seen in my life."
Mexican President Pena Nieto spoke about the unity, too, and said, “Today like never before, I feel proud to be Mexican.”
The newfound patriotism may not bode well for some U.S. companies, though, as hashtag boycotts are springing up in Mexico against buying American products like Starbucks, Coca Cola, and McDonald’s.
They’ve been using hashtags like #AdiosProductosGringos, #AdiosStarbucks, #AdiosCocaCola, and #AdiosMcDonalds.
