The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, shocked the public on Tuesday, October 9th after announcing her resignation. Haley will make her official White House departure at the end of 2018.
“Thank you for the overwhelming support and kindness we have received...We feel so blessed,” Haley said shortly after the public announcement. “More work to be done in the next couple of months at the United Nations! We are and will always be U.S. strong.”
The public is still awaiting news of who will take over Haley’s position. On Thursday, October 11th, President Donald Trump publicly commented on Haley’s potential replacement in a phone interview with Fox & Friends.
“Nikki Haley...did a really great job. She’s going to be replaced by somebody that’s fantastic,” Trump said of the former UN Ambassador.
“We have five people, we don’t have seven, but five people that want [the job] so bad,” the President added.
Trump would not confirm who the five potential candidates were, but he did say “they’re really outstanding; they’re top, top of the line.” Previously, reports suggested that First Daughter Ivanka Trump, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former deputy national security adviser Dina Powell, and U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell were all in talk for the position.
