A breaking news story swept the nation on Tuesday after it was revealed that the FBI had uncovered a massive scheme pertaining to the admissions process of elite colleges throughout the nation. According to reports, over 40 wealthy, famous, or very prominent people had used bribery to get their children into famous schools.
Now, some of the names on the list have been revealed. Most notably, Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman have made the list. Both are accused of using bribes and fraud to place their children into high-level colleges.
"Prosecutors said parents paid an admissions consultant from 2011 through last month to bribe coaches and administrators to label their children as recruited athletes, to alter test scores and to have others take online classes to boost their children’s chances of getting into schools," reported Market Watch.
Social media was immediately on fire following the news. Many were outraged and shocked to learn that the famous actresses were on the list. Donald Trump Jr. quickly took to Twitter to road Lori and Felicity and drudged up some of their old tweets to use against them.
Authorities are still working to investigate the incident. It is unclear what will happen to the many parents on the list. Their fraudulent deeds will certainly not go unpunished.
"Authorities said coaches in such sports as soccer, tennis, and volleyball accepted bribes to put students on lists of recruited athletes, regardless of their ability or experience. The bribes allegedly came through an admissions consulting company in Newport Beach, California. Authorities said parents paid the founder of the Edge College & Career Network approximately $25 million to get their children into college," according to reports.
In the case of Lori Loughlin, her child was said to be a rising recruit for the USC crew team. However, Lori's daughter wasn't even a crew athlete. In fact, she has even gone on the record to say she doesn't even really care about school.
"Loughlin appeared in the ABC sitcom 'Full House,' and Huffman starred in ABC’s 'Desperate Housewives.' Both were charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud," wrote Market Watch.
It is always wonderful to see justice served to people who truly believe they are above the law. More details will surely follow in this groundbreaking case.
