The Jussie Smollett case took a 180-turn this week when news broke that the “Empire” star actually staged his own attack that left him hospitalized. The actor, who is an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, initially claimed that his attackers were wearing MAGA hats and yelled out, “This is MAGA country.”
However, a thorough investigation determined that Smollett lied to authorities; he orchestrated the entire situation. As previously reported, the Chicago Police Department held a press conference Thursday morning revealing that Smollett has been arrested and indicted on charges of filing a false report — a Class 4 felony which is punishable up to three years in prison.
Smollett allegedly faked his own hate crime because he was not pleased with his salary. Before this attack, Smollett attempted to boost his media presence with a threatening letter sent to the set of "Empire." However, after the letter did not get enough media attention, Smollett reportedly resulted to staging a physical attack.
President Trump responded to the debacle Thursday morning via Twitter. In his post, he asked the actor one remarkable question regarding the people Smollett insulted — Trump’s supporters.
“Jussie Smollett - what about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and dangerous comments!? #MAGA,” POTUS tweeted shortly after the Chicago Police press conference.
