A sad story emerged from the Hollywood scene on Tuesday morning, January 29th. Several news outlets reported that famous television star Jussie Smollett, who is best-known for his starring role on Empire, was hospitalized after reportedly falling victim to a possible hate crime.
As previously reported, two men brutally attacked Smollett, 36, when he went out for a Subway sandwich at 2:00 AM in Chicago. The men allegedly fractured Smollett’s rib, tied a rope around his neck, and poured a chemical substance on him as they yelled “This is MAGA country” and called him derogatory names.
Authorities believe this attack was motivated by racism and homophobia. Smollett plays an African American gay singer on Empire, and he is also gay in real life.
President Donald Trump, who Smollett has previously criticized on social media, condemned the attack on the young tv star.
“That I can tell you was horrible. I’ve seen it, last night. I think that’s horrible. It doesn’t get worse as far as I’m concerned,” the president stated.

As Christians, this story comes as a great reminder to follow the example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus once said, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?” (Matthew 5:43-48).
