Happy Thanksgiving! This special holiday is about more than food, football, or even family. It is about a spirit of gratitude and reflection.

On Thanksgiving day, it has become an unwritten presidential tradition to perform an act of service. Some people have been quick to assume that President Trump and Melania were keeping to themselves on this holiday because they are away from the White House.

Although the first family has an extravagant dinner menu set for later in the day, they spent their morning serving. President Trump and Melania, who have often spoken out about their gratitude for the military, served meals to active duty armed forces.

Trump and Melania went to the Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet. According to the Daily Caller, they delivered meals to the many active Coast Guardsmen who were working on Thanksgiving.

The meal included sandwiches, fruit, juice, cookies, muffins, and sodas. The first family served over 60 active duty guardsmen.

During the special event, President Trump thanked them for their service. He specifically noted the fact that the Coast Guard played a significant role during the hurricanes in Texas, the Gulf Coast, and Puerto Rico. He said that they rescued around 16,000 people after Hurricane Harvey alone.

He said, “It is an honor to be here…Incredible people, you’ve done an incredible job.”

First Lady Melania shared the experience on Twitter. She said, “Thank you to all members of the military who keep us safe!”
