Trump Issues Scathing Response to 'Embarrassment' of WH Correspondents' Dinner

On Saturday night, hundreds of journalists, as well as White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, gathered together for the annual correspondents’ dinner. This year, however, the comedic undertones that are typically present at the dinner took a hateful turn.

Comedian Michelle Wolf made a speech at the dinner which has caused a vast array of controversy over the last two days. Many found her words to be hateful and unnecessary, while others thought that it held some elements of truth.

People were particularly upset about Wolf’s harsh and pointed remarks about Press Secretary Sanders. While the comedian was phrasing them as jokes, most people, even those who liked Wolf's overall speech, felt that they were completely out of line.

Even though some journalists at the dinner enjoyed the comedian’s speech and said that most of the remarks were truthful, most people found issues with how far Wolf took things. This is even true for the association that puts on the dinner.

In a surprising move, the association that puts on the correspondents’ dinner made a statement about the speech on Sunday. While it wasn’t necessarily an apology, they did extend some regrets.

The association’s president, Margaret Talev, said, “Last night’s program was meant to offer a unifying message about our common commitment to a vigorous and free press while honoring civility, great reporting and scholarship winners, not to divide people. Unfortunately, the entertainer’s monologue was not in the spirit of that mission.”

Now, President Trump has issued some scathing remarks about the dinner.

He said, “The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a failure last year, but this year was an embarrassment to everyone associated with it. The filthy ‘comedian’ totally bombed (couldn’t even deliver her lines- much like the Seth Meyers weak performance). Put Dinner to rest, or start over!”

Even Franklin Graham got involved on social media, saying that the press corps needs to issue an apology to President Trump and to the nation.
