In recent days, our nation has been in the middle of a massive controversy regarding immigrant children being separated from their families at the border. Many public figures and the mainstream media have focused the blame on the Trump administration, but have failed to recognize certain factors (see examples below).
As previously reported, separation only occurs when the parent or guardian is engaging in illegal activity. Additionally, Trump has consistently encouraged Democrats to work with Republicans to change the law (which was put into effect years before Trump became president), so the families can stay together.
Despite the current administration’s efforts, the two parties have not reached an agreement. However, on Wednesday, Trump announced that he will be signing an executive order to prevent family separations.
Trump tried to further explain the actual causes behind the separations to the public, but he kept getting interrupted by reporters. Finally, Trump hushed the reporters so he could clear the air regarding his stance on immigration.
“I hate the children being taken away,” Trump revealed. “The Democrats have to change their law. That’s their law.”
“Sir, that’s your own policy! You changed your policy. That’s your policy!” one reporter shouted at the president.
“Quiet. Quiet,” Trump said as he pointed his finger. “That’s the Democrats’ law. We can change it tonight. We can change it right now.”
“You’re the president! You changed it. Jeff Sessions changed it,” another reporter suggested.
Reporters continued to fire at Trump as he explained, “You need their votes. You need their votes.”
