President Trump has a new plan to build his wall. At a campaign rally in Iowa on Thursday, he proposed to cover the border wall between the U.S. and Mexico with solar panels.
He told the crowd in Cedar Rapids, “We’re thinking of something that’s unique, we’re talking about the southern border. Lots of sun, lots of heat…We’re thinking about building the wall as a solar wall, so it creates energy, and pays for itself. And this way Mexico will have to pay much less money, and that’s good.”
This was the first time he’s publicly shared his idea to make the wall more eco-friendly.
“Think about it, the higher it goes, the more valuable it is,” he added.
The response to his idea has been varied. Some have questioned the feasibility of his plan, while others have been excited by the idea. The suggestion has certainly helped American solar companies. Bloomberg reports that shares of solar manufacturers rose sharply after his announcement.
Many on Twitter have pointed out that making the wall solar puts liberals, who promote renewable energy, in a funny situation.
It will be interesting to see if the wall ends up being solar.
