Trump Family Member and White House Official Drop Secret Service Protection

The United States Secret Service, federal law enforcement agency, is responsible for many protection missions and a variety of investigations. One of their major duties is protecting the President of the United States, family members of the president, and other members of the White House.

According to Fox News, U.S. Secret Service protection is instructed by law to protect the president and his immediate family members. In some scenarios, Secret Service protection may be opted out.

The New York Times reported on Monday that one of Trump’s family members requested to drop Secret Service protection for “more privacy.” On Tuesday, Fox confirmed that President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., and his wife Vanessa Trump will no longer be using the protection.

In addition, a White House official is also dropping Secret Service protection—Kellyanne Conway. Conway is reportedly no longer in need of these means of protection services, given the low threat level.

The Times stated that the agency’s resources are stretched thin because of many of Trump’s close family members being covered under the protection. Other news sources, including the Washington Post, also confirmed this news.
