On Friday, January 11, the government was on the brink of the longest shutdown in history. As of midnight, it entered into day 22 of the shutdown. The shutdown was initiated over funding for the border wall that was promised on President Trump’s campaign trail.
Several American jobs have been directly impacted by the shutdown. The partial shutdown results in the lack or delay of pay for several governmental workers.
Shutdowns indicate a lack of compromise between the two mainstream parties’ representatives, as they begin when a decision about funding cannot be reached. For this particular shutdown, however, the mainstream media is exclusively placing blame on President Trump.
On Friday, January 11, President Trump took to his personal Twitter account to shut down CNN after they posted a glaringly obvious faux pas on their network.
According to reports, CNN asked a San Diego station, KUSI, to give a local perspective on the border wall. When the local reporter began talking about how the wall actually has been working in San Diego, CNN opted to remove it from their broadcast.
KUSI Anchor Anna Laurel said, “As a sign of the times in this debate on the shutdown, CNN asked if KUSI would provide a reporter to offer our local view of the debate, especially to learn if the wall works in San Diego.”
According to Fox News, KUSI is an independent station and is no affiliate to a major network. The broadcasters took to their own social media to talk about the appearance that CNN had a specific agenda in reaching out to them. When their reports did not match CNN’s confirmation bias, the mainstream network declined to report it.
Laurel wrote, “Knowing this, CNN declined to have us on their programs, which often present the wall as not required in other places like the stretch of the Texas border the president visited. They didn’t like what they heard from us.”
KUSI manager Mike McKinnon III wrote, “We believed CNN declined a report from KUSI because we informed them that most Border Patrol agents we have spoken to told us the barrier does in fact work.”
On Friday, President Trump posted a link to the local KUSI footage exposing CNN.
He wrote, “CNN called a San Diego news station (@KUSINews) for negative reports on the Wall. When the station said that Walls work, CNN no longer had interest. #FakeNews”
