President Trump is asking for prayers today after a Navy plane went down in the Philippine Sea on Wednesday. The C-2A Greyhound transport plane was on its way to the USS Ronald Reagan.

“The @USNavy is conducting search and rescue following aircraft crash. We are monitoring the situation. Prayers for all involved,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

11 crew members and passengers were aboard the plane when it plunged into the ocean, CNN reports. Eight so far have been pulled out of the water alive and are in good condition, according to Fox News.

"Our entire focus is on finding all of our sailors. US and Japanese ships and aircraft are searching the area of the crash, and we will be relentless in our efforts,” Navy Rear Admiral Marc H. Dalton said.

The plane was on its way from the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, southwest of Hiroshima, when it crashed on its way to the aircraft carrier. The plane was lining up for its approach when it went down. Engine trouble is the suspected cause.

The Japanese military is assisting in the search efforts for the missing personnel. Fox News notes that C-2 Greyhounds are aging aircraft that are scheduled for replacement in the next few years.

The USS Ronald Reagan has been involved in keeping an eye on North Korea. She was christened in 2001.
