Trevor Noah, comedian, slammed Will Smith in his opening monologue at Sunday’s Grammys.
“People, it’s going to be such a beautiful evening,” said Noah.
“Don’t view it as an awards show. This is a concert where awards are given out. We’ll listen to music, dance, sing, and will give out awards throughout the night.
Will Smith has resigned.
“I have replied directly to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice. I will fully accept any and every consequence for my conduct. My actions at 94th Academy Awards presentations were shocking, painstaking, and inexcusable. The list of people I have hurt is extensive and includes Chris, his loved ones, many of my dearest friends, as well as all those who were present, as well the global audience at home. I betrayed the trust shown by the Academy.”

He said, “I denied other nominees and winners the opportunity to celebrate their extraordinary work.” I am heartbroken. I want to focus attention on the people who deserve it for their accomplishments and allow the Academy back to the amazing work it does in supporting creativity and art in film.
