BREAKING: Union Pacific Train Derails in Texas Neighborhood

There are few man-made forces on this planet more powerful than a locomotive. When things go wrong and a train comes off the tracks it usually spells disaster for everyone involved.

A scary incident took place this morning in Texas after a Union Pacific train did just that. The huge machine derailed in the middle of a neighborhood, creating a massive scene.

"In a statement to NBC 5 Union Pacific said a locomotive and six rail cars derailed upright while another seven overturned at about 9:30 a.m. Video from Texas Sky Ranger showed at least eight rail cars piled up along the tracks that split Pecan Street east of South Main Street -- many of the rail cars were off of their wheels," reported NBC.

Luckily, some of the cars appear to have just narrowly missed colliding with the nearby homes. At this time, photos show that some parts of the train seemed to have hit a garage at one residence.

"We are working to quickly and safely clear the mainline. An inspection team will look at the tracks and make any necessary repairs," Union Pacific said in a statement.

Luckily, no injuries were reported in the wreck. Officials are working to determine what caused the train to derail. It happened near a switch which is being examined for possibly contributing to the wreck. Luckily, no hazardous materials were on the train at the time.

"Crossings at Plum Street and Main Street/Spring Hill Road are blocked and officials have not said when they'll reopen. The Elm Street crossing appears to be open," reported NBC.
