A Nigerian musician is mourning the tragic loss of his son. This happened less than two weeks after Olympic athlete Bode Miller's 19-month-old daughter also drowned in their pool.
Afrobeats singer D'banj lost his son, Daniel Oyebanjo III, over the weekend. D'banj, whose real name is Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, became a father to the little boy in May 2017.
A family friend confirmed the news to the BBC. He said there would be no further statement.
The singer, who rose to world face after his 2012 hit "Oliver Twist," has not commented on his son's passing. However, he posted a black image on his Instagram account with the caption: "Trying Times. But my God is Always and Forever Faithful."
He was in Los Angeles attending the BET awards ceremony when his son died.
D'Banj appeared to be a loving father. He regularly posted photos of his young son on Instagram. His last picture was on Fathers' Day of him changing his son's diaper.
D'banj is a "star through and through," writes the BBC. His hits have gained him a loyal base of fans in Nigeria and people around the world dance to his hits. He released his biggest hit on Kanye West's music label, which brought him international stardom.
Fans and fellow stars are mourning his loss on Twitter. Please join them in sending your condolences and prayers.
Please pray for D'Banj and his wife, as well as all those who have lost a child. This is such a tragic loss.
