The horrible news was just confirmed that a charter bus full of dozens of young children got into a fatal crash. The bus was carrying a youth football team from Tennessee. The crash took place on Monday in central Arkansas.
According to initial reports, at least one child was killed and around 45 others have been injured. According to Arkansas State Police, the bus crashed near Benton along Interstate 30. The football team was en route to Memphis, Tennessee.
Police confirmed that most of the children who were injured were sent to hospitals in Benton and Little Rock. However, little information has been given about the nature of the injuries.
Authorities have not released information regarding the specifics of the crash, but photos show the bus in damaged condition and overturned. The bus appeared to be in an embankment near the woods, off of the road where there was a sharp bend.
The Arkansas Children's Hospital was able to confirm that the 24 patients that they received are in stable condition as of Monday afternoon, thankfully.
The bus driver reported that she lost control of the vehicle at around 2:40 a.m. local time. However, the crash is still under investigation.
