A tragedy occurred over the weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina. On Saturday morning, December 9th, 37-year-old Antioco Chacon opened fire at his family in their apartment.
In what appears to be a murder-suicide, Chacon shot and killed his mother, Asunscion Chacon-Perez, and his wife, Marina Bravo Aguilar, reported WSOCTV. Before killing himself, he also shot his 12-year-old daughter Tiffany Andrade, who is still in critical condition as of Tuesday morning; no additional information regarding her condition has been released.
Andrade had surgery Sunday morning and is still recovering. She reportedly is awake, but can’t speak.
The 12-year-old’s two siblings (ages 8 and 13) were in the home at the time of the shooting, but were fortunately not injured. They are safe and staying with other family members.
It is unclear what Chacon’s motive was. However, the young girl’s great uncle, Sacramento Andrade Bravo, noted to WSOCTV that Chacon had aggressive behavior in the past, especially when drinking alcohol or taking drugs. Police believe the incident was related to a domestic issue.
Although a very tragic situation, the uncle also touched on the family’s faith and gratitude for God’s goodness, "She's a little bit better, but she's still not out of critical condition," he said. "We're thanking God she's still alive. We're putting our hope in God that she will recover."
An investigation is ongoing. No photos or additional information on the suspect and victims have yet been released.
This story is developing and will be updated as more details are released to the public.
