Tragedy struck the family of two reality stars earlier this week. The oldest son of Rod “Shooter” Gates was reportedly shot and killed.
Rod appears on the reality show as a rising producer and model, “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” during season six with his wife Sierra Gates, who runs famous beauty shops in the Atlanta area. The reality television series follows several people in Atlanta involved in the hip hop industry, including a few bigger rap names such as Yung Joc and Lil Scrappy.
In a heartbreaking Instagram post, Sierra announced the sad news of Rod Jr.’s death to the public. She said, “Before you pull that trigger just know you are taking someone's child. Brother. Best friend. Uncle. Dad. The list goes on. My Sons & Daughter big brother is gone and I have to explain to them why. Rest up [Rod Jr.] I love you we will miss you so much.”
Rod also commented on his son’s death in several Instagram posts. He mentioned that the only thing that keeps him going is that the “Lord makes no mistakes.” Rod is a believer and references God continuously on social media.
Additionally, he truly appreciated the love and support from his friends and other members in the music industry. Rappers T.I. and Young Dro are shown in a video with Rod, offering a “helping hand.”
VH1, the network of the reality show, expressed their condolences to the Gates family. Their website stated, “We at VH1 offer our love and condolences to the Gates family during this difficult time.”
This tragic news comes shortly after a young rapper was also shot and killed outside of a restaurant in Atlanta. Please join us in prayer for their friends, family, and loved ones. Thank you!
