Tony Awards Issues ‘No Violence’ Policy After Will Smith’s Oscars Slap

Tony Awards producers issued a strict no violence policy following Will Smith’s onstage Oscars slap.

“In the case of an incident the perpetrator will have to be removed from that event immediately,” a portion of the letter released the producers.

This new rule comes weeks after Smith beat Chris Rock at 2022 Oscars. Smith won an Oscar, but was then expelled from the Academy for a period of ten years.

“The Board decided that Mr. Smith will be barred from attending any Academy events or programs starting April 8, 2022 for a period not exceeding 10 years,” Dawn Hudson, CEO of AMPAS, and David Rubin, president of AMPAS.
