In heartbreaking news, a recent guest on “The Tonight Show” has passed away. 8-year-old Jeremiah “Jerry” Grant was struck and killed by a Jeep on Saturday afternoon.
Grant appeared on the show with Jimmy Fallon to show off his skills as part of the jump rope group named “Honey Bees.” He was the youngest member of the group and went by the name “Prince Bee.”
He was walking home from a fundraiser for his awarding winning jump rope group when the tragedy took place. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Honey Bees founder, Takeria Clark, explained what happened that afternoon. “We all stopped at the corner and Jerry heard ‘go’ from another jumper and ran in the street,” Clark Said. “The car was going so fast. It hit him so hard.”
After the driver stuck Jerry he kept driving, not knowing he had hit anyone. “I jumped on the street, went after the car. I was able to stop him and let him know he had to stop because he hit somebody,” a witness explained. “He said he thought he went over a book bag. He didn’t notice that he had hit a person.”
According to PEOPLE, no charges have been filed against the driver and speed reportedly did not appear to be a factor in this tragedy. He can be seen in the photo below in the front row, second from the right.
The video below shows the segment of Jerry jumping with the other “Honey Bees” while on The Tonight Show. He can be seen doing an impressive cartwheel out of the jump ropes.
