A tragic story has recently taken the internet by storm. An Indiana toddler sadly died after falling 11 stories on a Royal Carribean “Freedom of the Seas” cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico.
According to FOX 59, the 18-month-old child was on vacation with her family. The grandfather of the little girl was reportedly holding her at the time of the incident. She suddenly slipped through his arms before falling 150 feet.
The young girl, who has been identified as the daughter of a police officer, landed on concrete. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but passed away shortly after her arrival.
“The South Bend Police Department offers its sincerest condolences to Officer Alan Wiegand and his family during this difficult time following the tragic loss of their child while in Puerto Rico. The department asks the community to pray for the entire Wiegand family as they grieve and to respect their privacy,” the dad’s department wrote on Facebook.
Royal Carribean also released a public statement: “We are deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the family. We’ve made our Care Team available to assist the family with any resources they need. Out of respect for their privacy, we do not plan to comment further on the incident.”
