Fans of the Royal Family have been thrilled to learn the news that a new royal baby is on the way. On Monday, it was confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting a baby!
The new addition for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is expected to arrive in the spring. With the anticipation of whether the new baby will be a boy or a girl also comes the question as to what his or her title will be.
According to reports, "It’s traditional for the eldest son of a duke to eventually inherit his father’s title. If their baby is a boy, he could be known by the title Earl of Dumbarton, the secondary Sussex title, before inheriting the dukedom, William Bortrick of Burke's Peerage explains."
If the new baby is a girl she will be called Lady (Her Name) Windsor, and any future younger sons will be known as Lord (His Name) Windsor.
Of course, their true title will not be certain until his or her birth. Queen Elizabeth may give the baby a title which is similar to Prince William and Kate Middleton's children. If so, their son would be known as His Royal Highness Prince (His Name) of Sussex, and their daughters will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess (Her Name) of Sussex.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan do have the option to forgo giving their children a title altogether. Regardless of the new little bundle of joy's title, the world will be watching and waiting for their arrival.
