Tim Tebow and his fiancée Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters are in deep mourning after a tragic loss. They shared the sad news on social media over the weekend, reported the Christian Post.
The couple, who got engaged in the summer, were brought together by Nel-Peters' younger sister, Franje. In a set of posts, the couple revealed that she had passed away.
According to Nel-Peters, the 13-year-old passed away suddenly on Saturday. In a moving post, Tebow's fiancée posted the verse of scripture Romans 8:38-39 along with photos of her little sister.
“My little Princess, Angel on Earth, biggest joy and baby sister, Franje, passed away earlier today,” wrote the 2017 Miss Universe winner. “Our hearts are aching beyond measure but I am grateful knowing she’s forever relieved of the pain she experienced on earth. She’s laughing, running and playing in heaven just like we always hoped she would on earth. She’s free! Thank you for all your prayers, love and support.”
At the end of the post, Nel-Peters, who is a South African native, wrote in her native language a line that translates as: “Love you always my Sussa and someday we'll be together again!”
Tebow also shared a post about the devastating loss. Alongside a photo of him and Demi with Franje, he wrote a heartfelt caption.
“Our loss but heavens gain. So grateful for the hope we have of being reunited with the ones we love through our Heavenly Father. Mr & Mrs. Peters and Demi-Leigh we are praying for you and love you so much,” Tebow wrote.
Tebow and Nel-Peters met through his nonprofit Night to Shine. Night to Shine is a worldwide event sponsored by the Tebow Foundation for people with special needs.
"Her sister has special needs, so we invited them to Night to Shine in South Africa," revealed Tebow on the Today Show. "We kind of met and started talking through that and haven't stopped."
The South African reported that young Franje had suffered from cerebellar agenesis, which is a condition where a person is born without the cerebellum portion of the brain. The cerebellum is responsible for regulating motor movement. The condition impaired Franje's ability to walk, talk, and mentally develop.
Please join us in praying for the Nel-Peters and Tebow families as they go through this hard time. May their faith comfort them in their time of loss.
