Reports claim that Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg made more money than anybody else in 2017, including Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos, who was recently named the richest man in the world.
According to Time Money, Zuckerberg has earned $23.1 billion so far this year, putting his overall wealth at $73.1 billion. The net worth of Amazon founder Bezos, on the other hand, is now up $19.7 billion so far in 2017, pushing his estimated net worth to $85 billion.
“On Monday alone, Zuckerberg gained nearly $1 billion,” writes Time Money. “He is now just $3 billion away from surpassing Warren Buffett as the 4th richest person in the world.”
It has been reported that Zuckerberg plans to give away 99% of his shares, which some have interpreted as a sign of political ambition. Zuckerberg has been on a tour to every single state in America, which has included visits to key businesses such as Ford and key swing states such as Ohio. He has twice denied, however, that he is running for office.
Furthermore, according to another source, last week Zuckerberg hired a top Hillary Clinton strategist, Joel Benenson, which further added to speculation that he might be preparing for a 2020 presidential run. According to one source, Benenson was also an adviser to former president Barack Obama.
Zuckerberg’s group has already hired David Plouffe, who managed Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, as well as Ken Mehlman, a moderate Republican who ran the 2004 reelection campaign of former president George W. Bush.
Zuckerberg has also had direct meetings with former president Obama, has voiced approval to a universal basic income, and has called to fight against nationalism, which he has called the “struggle of our time.”
