During the last several months, many celebrities have been attempting to wade into the ocean of politics. The newest to admit that she is interested in a political future is decorated actress Shailene Woodley.
The actress is best known for her starring roles in "Divergent" and "The Fault in Our Stars." Woodley has been making headlines in the last few years for reasons other than her successful acting career, however. The 25-year-old is known for her Democratic views and for being a staunch opponent of the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline.
Last year, the actress was arrested while protesting the pipeline. After the arrest, she wrote an essay encouraging her fans to find their calling.
She said, “Whatever your cause is. Whatever your passion is. Whatever you care about most… none of your efforts or hard-earned opinions will matter when the planet and the people you’re fighting for have nothing left to show for it.”
“Will you choose money, or will you choose children? Will you choose ignorance, or will you choose love? Will you choose blindness, or will you choose freedom?” she continued. “I am not scared. I am not afraid. I am grateful, and I am amazed to be standing by the sides of so many peaceful warriors. Simply feeding off the hype of a celebrity’s arrest ain’t going to save the world. But, standing together will.”
Now, apparently Woodley’s “calling” could be politics. In a recent interview with the New York Times, the actress said that she has thought about running for Congress in the future.
She said, “There was a point last year when I was working for Bernie Sanders where I thought, ‘Huh, maybe I’ll run for Congress in a couple years.’”
“And you know what?” she continued. “I’m not going to rule it out. Who knows? Life is big, and I’m young.”
What do you think about this? Is this actress in over her head? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook. George Clooney has been making bold political statements recently as well and just made a bold move that has caused conservative Christians to be outraged.
