Angelica Hale, 9-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, auditioned for America’s Got Talent in the 2017 season. In her audition, she stunned the judges and audience with her jaw-dropping performance when she sang "Rise up" by Andra Day, bringing tears to many in the crowd and earning herself a standing ovation from all four judges.
After making it to the next round known as "The Judge Cuts," the judges were even more amazed with her second performance. This time she sang "Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys.
Before performing, she admitted she was more nervous than she was in the auditions. However, that didn’t stop her from stealing the hearts of everyone in the crowd, including guest judge Chris Hardwick.
After her performance was over, the crowd chanted, ‘Golden! Golden! Golden!’, encouraging the judges to award her with the special Golden Buzzer. Hardwick was so impressed that he did decide to honor her with the Golden Buzzer, immediately moving her into the live rounds.
After his jaw literally dropped, he told Hale, “I’m so blown away because you walk out and you’ve got these sneakers on and you look like this adorable little child and then you open your mouth and it’s like, how do these pipes fit in that tiny body? You are unbelievable!” He stopped, moved his hand toward the buzzer and said, “Angelica, you are the chosen one!”
Gold confetti began to fall down on the little girl. She jumped in excitement and started crying. Then, Hardwick rushed to the stage to give her a hug and a high five.
