This spectacular tiny house with modern interior design is inspired by a Scandinavian longhouse

Warm, welcoming, and magnificent. These are the perfect words for describing the home of Matt & Heidi Horton.

This house is inspired from a Nordic longhouse. A long, narrow building that was used by the Vikings to live in 9Th century.

This small house is also packed with incredible Scandinavian interior design ideas that make it even more fascinating.

The small house is striking and interesting from the outside. It was constructed from top-quality, long-lasting materials. It also features cleverly designed.

The couple made the most of the remaining half-acre by creating beautiful gardens as well as a functional greenhouse.

Heidi said that they want to be as self-sufficient possible, hence the idea to grow their own food.

Heidi was also able to work in her own home, by creating a separate studio/work office. Matt enjoys doing handy work in their huge garage.

Matt shared that they were inspired by a longhouse-inspired home while on holiday in Monaco. They also stayed in an Airbnb with a similar vibe.

They realized that although they lived in a house of 800 square meters, only a third of the space was theirs.

They now have a smaller house, but they were able make it more functional and comfortable. This is evident in the modern interior design of their house.

Most small houses are narrow and crowded but Heidi’s and Matt’s house is very spacious inside.

The concrete floors and the plywood make the space warm, inviting. Their lounge features a well-made sofa and comfortable chairs.

The Scandinavian style of the house means that its modern interior design is minimalist. There are no unnecessary rooms, furniture or clutter. The space is bright and inviting with lots of open spaces.

A low-emission woodstove is located in the corner for a soothing atmosphere. It also works well when temperatures are low.

The cozy, welcoming atmosphere of the kitchen is still evident. Heidi believes that the kitchen is the heart and soul of the home. She and her husband made sure that it was a space they both loved. They have all the appliances they need, including a stovetop, microwave, and dishwasher.

Heidi discovered that their kitchen was very functional and began to use it for her cooking demonstrations. They also have a pantry that is stocked with enough spices and other goods to feed an army.

Another remarkable feature of the house is the kitchen island with sink. This allows the couple to connect with their guests while they are busy in the kitchen.

Matt said that the Formica laminate sheets used for the kitchen countertop are not marble, but that many people mistakenly believe it to be.

You will find a small hallway that leads to a separate room for the couple’s extra food.

“I put some shelving because I was accumulating a lot of preserves and sauces and jams and stuff, so we needed a bit of storage system for all of it,” Heidi explained.

The rest of this house has a clean, comfortable bathroom and a gorgeous, unique bedroom. Both rooms give a homey feeling and amazing modern interior design with soft hues and modern décor.

Heidi shared that the house cost $220,000 to build. Heidi said it was worth it because they have their forever home.

“Living in a small home has taught me a lot about the life that you get to love and making sure that you are adoring it and not just get caught up in the day-to-day stuff like when you live in a big house, which makes you really conscious, and make sure that you’re living your best life day to day.”
